1108 Lion Low-Stretch Picture Cord No. 2 150kg 500m
Our Low-Stretch cord is made in the UK from white polyester fibre.
Laboratory tests show that at any given breaking strain, the extension with nylon was around 26%, but with polyester, only around 12%. This improvement in stretch characteristics is a great benefit to you – the framer. Polyester cannot rot, nor will moisture from the atmosphere change its characteristics. As a guide, to allow for ‘shock’ loading, the picture weight should be no more than about one quarter of the breaking strain.
Every framer fears the news from a customer that “the cord broke and the picture fell onto the grand piano”. Sometimes the cord did actually break, but often that would be an old cotton cord, which could rot. More likely, the cord becomes untied from the eye, or the eye itself pulls out, breaks or comes open.
Take care to always select fixing hardware which is more than strong enough.
We have an in-house purpose-built load testing rig so you can be more certain of the safe load carrying capacity of any frame hardware from Lion.
SWL – Red handle icon giving a tested safe load figure which is derived from actual test results on our rig. Typically between 25% and 33% of the load at failure.
ESWL – White handle icon shows an estimated safe load figure based on our experience and best judgement.
